Hello. I'm a Golf Professional in Santa Monica, California. I want to convey to you, via the proceding swing technique steps the need to build your strength and flexibility to bring your golf ability up to it's maximum potential. "Go by the numbers", using the JavaScript image map just below to take you step by step through a great golf swing, and link you to the text that expalins each step. You'll find phrases to remember and use with your own swing, and ideally, power up your game of golf.

The Foundation of Address

The address is as important to a correct golf swing as the swing itself. To start, You must to place yourself in an athletic position. This is similar to starting positions in many sports. If I release my hands from the club and let them hang freely, I could be in a stance to play shortstop, or return serve in volleyball, etc.. The idea here is to position your body in such a way as to make the next move, the backswing, as easy as possible to execute.

You need to flex slightly, rather than bending at your knees. Also, there must be enough forward tilt at the hip to let your hands hang freely over each thigh.

Appropriate exercises for golfers are those that condition your low back, thighs and the insides of your legs. Strengthening your arm and upper body muscles is also vital.
